ROCKHAMPTON will soon no longer be famous only for being the beef capital of Australia.

According to Property Success, a real estate program on the Sky News Business Channel, Rocky is also a property gold mine for investors. And last week producers were in the city filming for an episode to be aired later in the year.

Presenter Margaret Lomas said about 24 episodes were aired each year, but only 12 to 15 regions were identified as hot spots. "Property Success is a show specifically designed to target and cater for potential property investors and we look for areas that offer a 5% in yield per year and Rockhampton has that," Ms Lomas said.

She said Rockhampton had its own growth drivers and was not dependent on the resources industry, an important factor for property investors.

Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Brad Carter was not surprised Rocky was identified as great place for investors.

"We know we have an enviable lifestyle and offer a great place to live with varied career opportunities, an airport offering direct flights to destinations such as Brisbane, Townsville and Melbourne, excellent education and training facilities, quality medical facilities, the largest shopping centre between Maroochydore and Townsville and varied tourism opportunities including having the Great Barrier Reef at our doorstep," he said.

"Rockhampton region also offers an affordable lifestyle and a choice from coastal urban with premium sea views to rural lifestyle blocks in close proximity to amenities and an abundant water supply, attractive traits for property investors.

"Being highlighted is good news for our region's growth and is a positive sign of demand for property in our region."
